Kara Walker. She is best known for her room-size tableaux of black cut-paper silhouettes and the explorations of race, gender, sexuality, violence, and identity in her work.

Learned about her work in my Art Appreciation class.

oh man I had SUCH a tense conversation with a white woman at MOMA about Kara’s work that just ended in me yelling, “THINK ABOUT WHY THIS MAKES YOU UNCOMFORTABLE”. I mean, that was the best I could do with the situation

How’s this for a handy sexuality guide? ( gay .org.uk )

How is androphilia dealing with femininity? Andro means man/male. Wouldn’t it be Gynophilia for that? (Or are we doing the default male thing here?)

These definitions are terrible.

Androphilia would be attraction to men.  It’s sometimes used by trans people to, you know, express sexual orientation without resorting to binaryist models. (Like if you’re nonbinary you can’t really say “I’m straight!” or “I’m gay” since… which gender does that mean you’re attracted to then?  Also I’ve used language like that before I transitioned when I couldn’t say I’m gay because then people’d assume I meant I liked men, but if I say I’m straight I’m misgendering myself.)

BUT CLEARLY THE AUTHOR OF THIS HAS NEVER HEARD OF TRANS PEOPLE. ‘cause WOW the cissexism.

Their definition of “pansexual”, for example, is not a definition of pansexual I’ve ever heard, but is however, demisexuality.  (Except that not all demisexual people are polysexual.)

And queer is, you know, a reclaimed slur.

Emphasis mine. Don’t mind me, I’m just a unicorn~

Really what the fuck are up with these definitions. They are fucking horrible.

Love,

Taylor
